Tiramisu

I made this sinful cake for our Anniversary. This is my second attempt making Tiramisu. The first time I didn't have all the right ingredients and I just used whatever I had in hand and it turn out a huge dissapointment in taste.

So this time I bought ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, best cocoa powder, dark rum and heavy whipping cream. All I have to do is assemble the cake with all these ingredients and the taste is to die for.

Ingredients :

2 tub 8oz mascarpone cheese
1 tbsp of coffee liqueur
8 tbsp of sugar (you can add more)
450 ml of heavy cream
1 cup of hot strong brewed coffee
1/4 cup of dark rum
48 lady fingers (more or less)
unsweetened cocoa powder

Decoration :

Strawberries, raspberries and lady fingers

1) In a mixing bowl whisk the whipping cream with 4 tbsp of sugar until firm peak. set aside.
2) In a second mixing bowl cream the mascarpone, coffee liqueur and 4 tbsp of sugar
3) Fold the whipping cream into the mascarpone cheese and set aside
4) Mix the coffee and dark rum. Dip lady fingers into coffee mixture and place in the bottom of the baking dish or spring form pan.
5) Spread some cream cheese mixture over the ladyfingers and dust with cocoa powder.
6) Dip some ladyfingers into coffee mixture and repeat step '5' again.
7) Cover and refrigerate tiramisu overnight.
8) Just before serving decorate it with some cocoa powder or fresh fruits.

This is how the tiramisu looks like inside

Gave some to my neighbor Nancy and Diana. This is what left of the cake :) :)

Note : You can add more sugar if you want a sweeter Tiramisu

Wondering chopsticks, thank you.

Jun, tak habis. Still some in the fridge. Nak datang rumah I ke so we can makan sama sama :)

Jeena, thank you.

Catcat, actually I didn't do a good job on the decorations. A lot of flaws. Have to do a better job the next time :)

Beachlover, mine is the Italian version using mascarpone cheese and ladyfingers. The one at Asian bakery they used cream cheese and spong cake which I don't like. By the way, I change my recipe a bit by taking out the egg yolks.

Blurmommy, thank you so much.

Zue, terima kasih. I already posted the slice pictures.

Sue, sorry about that. It should be 2 tub of 80z M. Cheese. By the way you might want to check other recipe because I didn't used any egg yolk for my cake.

Gert ... I'm one of those weird folks who don't like tiramisu but yours will light up a Thanksgiving dinner table. :) I am quite sure the ladyfingers you mentioned are not okra, so silly question - are they the biscuirts lining your cake??

Rita, the ladyfingers is the sponge fingers around the cake and I also used the same for the inside.

Great you just gave me the best idea for Fabien's birthday. Ever since we moved in to our apartment he has not yet plugged the oven. Happy to find a recipe that doesn't require oven and look so so yummy.

Zaza, thank you.

Pj, you want to be my first customer?

Bee Eng, this is an easy cake to assemble. Hope Fabien likes it.

Hi Gert,

I just tried this and I think I had made some mistakes. Since I'm in France I have to convert all the measurements. For example the 8oz cheese becomes 225g.

May I know how many layers of lady fingers you put for it? I used all the 60 lady fingers and still it doesn't look as high as yours. Then I have a lot of the cream mix left. The cream mix I have is liquid so the lady fingers kind of slip away and the whole thing look like a mass.

From your photo, it seems that your tiramisu is quite firm, stayed together and not liquid. Mine looks very soft. I will see how it looks together after being in the refrigerator.

If you can give me some advise that would be really appreciated.

Me too ... I made a tiramisu recently with raw eggs :)

Bee Eng,

For this cake I had 3 layers of ladyfingers and I did it on a 8" spring form pan. By the way did you beat the cream first before mixing it into the Mascarpone cheese. If you did it should not be watery. Once you beat the cream it should be firm and then mix it with the cheese. I am not sure which step you did wrong. I hope this help.

Ninja, I am not too comfortable eating raw egg :) :) Will swing over to your blog to check it out.

for those who are not comfortable with eating raw egg.. like me too, may i suggest cook the egg in a double boiler not direct heat. what i did is i cook the egg yolk in a porcelain bowl inside a hot water bath (a bigger bowl) and stiring it slowly... and the egg yolk has no more raw smell.. hope that works for u

Hi, your cake is lovely! I love to try making tiramisu cake soon... By the way, how did you arrange the lady fingers around the cake and tied with a ribbon? I've been wondering when I saw a same decor as yours on another blog previously.

atakat, thanks for the tips.

Awoz, thank you.

Gaardenia, I arrange the lady fingers around the spring form pan before assemble the cake. Once the cake is set and take it out of the pan and then tie a ribbon around it.
