I like having juice or smoothies in the morning. Not the store bought kind but something that I juice or blend myself. As for juice it will be combinations of vegetables and fruits but for smoothies I prefer only fruits. For me having juice or smoothies is the quickest and easiest meal that contains all the nutrients in the most digestible form. You basically can add any type of vegetables or fruits to it. Once a while I like to add some non-fat yogurt or soy milk to it too. If you are worried about the sugar or calorie in certain fruits you can always use low sugar content fruits like green apple, grapefruit, berries, kiwi or lemon. This healthy smoothie tends to be high in fiber and low in calories. Do give it a try.

Lychee and Watermelon Cocktail
We are having some very hot summer for the past few days. I've been stocking up the fridge with lots of fresh fruits. As usual watermelon and lychees are in season during this time so I bought some of it when I went groceries shopping last week. I am the only one eating them since Carlos is not fan of both fruits. I normally will share it with my neighbor but her family is away on holiday. So I have to find ways to finish them up. Besides eating them fresh, I used some to make cocktail drink. Actually it is my sister Elizabeth that told me about this combination and she said it is really good. Well, I agreed with her. This is a refreshing drink and great to serve it during hot and humid weather. I must confess though, I used canned lychees as I am just too lazy to peel and deseed them. Feel free to use to add a splash of vodka to drink if you like.

Cendol

Cendol has always been my favourite desert. The good old days where you can get a bowl of cendol from the Indian vendor that comes in his bicycle around our neighbourbood. Those green little worms cover with thick coconut santan, gula melaka and most important ice shaving on the topping is just pure heavy in our hot weather.
Zue and I made some cendol over the weekend. Actually is not that difficult at all. All it took us only 20 minutes to do this. Thank Jun of the recipe.
Ingredients
60 grm green bean flour (hoon Kwe flour)
300 ml water (you can blend with pandan leaves to get the flavour and colour )
1 tsp of pandan paste
1 tsp of alkaline water
1 tsp of salt

1) Mix all the above ingredients together until well combined.
2) Cook over low flame until thick.
3) Prepare a basin or container with some cold water and ice. Place a cendol sieve or a ladle over the basin and pour the cendol mixture over the sieve. Press lightly with a big spoon until the mixture went through. Make sure the water is really cold so these little green droplets don't stick to each other.
4) Drain and they are ready to be serve with gula melaka and coconut milk.

Strawberry Liqueur

Strawberry season is here. I was reading 'Blue Lotus' blog and she did this strawberry liqueur. Since strawberries is so cheap now I thought maybe I should give this liqueur a try. Is really simple and all you need is a glass jar or bottle, strawberries, rock sugar, white liquor and some slice lemon. I not too sure what this white liquor is so Carlos suggest that I used either vodka or rum.

What you need :
2 packets of Strawberries - wash and drain well.
2 lemons - remove the skin, seeds and the white part and slice thinly
1 packet of rock sugar
1 bottle of vodka or rum
Arrange strawberries, lemon slices and rock sugar in the jar. Pour liquor into the jar/bottle enough to cover the fruits and sugar and seal well. Leave jar /bottle in a cool dark place for two months or liqueur turns nice and red. Strain to remove fruits and transfer to clean bottles.
Note : You can use any kind of sugar and the amount is up to you. It all depend on the sweetness you want.
