Beef Rendang

Diana came home from Japan last week and the first dish she asked for was something spicy and the dish that came into my mind was Beef Rendang. Since I am not in the mood of preparing too many ingredients and spending too much cooking it, I just used the Delimas Rendang Paste. It's so easy nowadays cooking this authentic Malaysian dish as you can get the ready made paste from myTasteofAsia.com. Beside that you can get Curry, Rendang, Asam Laksa, Prawns Mee, Malaysian snacks, etc from them online and it will be delivery to your doorstep in no time.

Since we like our Rendang spicy I added extra chili powder to the paste and for extra oomph I add some kafir lime leaves and a stalk of lemongrass to this dish. The paste is really good and I will definitely cook with this paste again.

I served this dish with Nona brand Ketupat Palas given to me by my good friend Zue . I really like the shape of the ketupat:) Aren't they pretty?

Wah, I love this rich dark color! Looks delicious with the ketupat. I have yet to try this paste, have to wait until I get back first.

I was browsing around and stumbled upon your blog. After reading all of your entries, my hunger for Msian food arose and I wish I lived nearby you! :)

Wow yum, I'm sure it went very well with the ketupat which is so cute, like a bak chang.

The shape of the ketupat is pretty. Does it come like that or did you use a mould or something? The ready made ketupat I bought came in boring rectangular blocks.

LCOM, are you having a good time in Malaysia :)I add some chili powder to this dish that is why it turn out dark red.

Ap, thanks for stopping by and your comment :)

Singairishgirl, it does look like 'chang' :)

Tigerfish, the ketupat came in a triangle bags and you just have to drop it into boiling water. Actually the normal ketupat taste better than this one :)

Yatie, there is a house opposite mine on sale. You nak beli tak :)

Lesley, this ketupat came in a small bag and all you have to do is just boil it. I don't know how to make chang lah. Tried doing it a few time but everything opens up when I boil it :(

Yatie, I will do so :)

Rita, I will try to make my own spices when I cook curry but sometime I do get lazy so I just use the ready paste :)

Your rendang looks sooo good. Does it taste as good as it looks? I've never had much success with rendang paste, they always turn out odd-tasting, sometimes sourish. I cook beef rendang from scratch, which is rather troublesome (cos need Daun Salam, Daun Kunyit etc), so would definitely appreciate a tried and tested solid rendang paste! Can this brand Taste of Asia be found in Malaysia/Singapore? Thanks.

Lilian, I too like cooking my rendang from scratch but sometime its difficult to get all the fresh ingredients so I have to make do with the packet paste but I will normally add some extra spices like chili powder, kafir lime leaves, serai to it. By the way the brand of rendang paste is Delimas and Taste of Asia is the company that sell this product.

Hi, I read your comment in Lilian's blog.

You mean Tean's Gourmet's Rendang paste is good? We have Tean's Gourmet here in Vancouver. Maybe I can try it one day...

I lurrrrve Tean's Gourmet's prawn noodle soup premix!!! The grocer was out of it for several weeks and when the stock came, I bought half a dozen packets!

I know how to make prawn-noodle-soup from scratch but it's like a 3-hr chore compared to using the premix which is only about 45 min, and just as good :-)

Btw I tried Lilian's beef rendang (you can find the recipe in her blog) and it was really really good!

Everyone in my family likes it, which says a lot as I have a few of the most fussy kids in the world... :-)

I am wondering if it is possible to use this paste as a "lazy" marinade for beef or chicken satay?
