Mango Jelly/Mango Agar-Agar

We are having some crazy heat waves for the past two weeks. So I am not doing much cooking or baking for the time being. We just have salads or sandwiches for our meals. I am craving for something cold and refreshing to ease the heat. Since mangoes are in season and I always have a few in my fridge, I decided to make some agar agar with it.

From My Kitchen Snippets

5 gram agar agar powder
2 cups water
1 cup milk
2 mangoes – cut into chunks
4 - 5 tbsp sugar (depend on how sweet you like it)

1. Puree the mangoes with milk until smooth. Set it aside.
2. In a saucepan, bring the water and agar agar to boil. Lower down the heat and let it simmer of 3 minutes or until agar agar powder dissolve.
3. Add in the mango puree and sugar. Once it comes up to a boils, turn off the heat immediately or else the milk will curdle. Check if the sweetness is to your likings.
4. Pour it into the mould and let it set in the fridge before serving.

Approximately how many cups of puree does two mangoes make? Good fresh mangoes are hard to come by in Canada, so I usually end up having to use canned puree! My usual recipe uses gelatin, but I'm interested in trying it with agar agar!

the weather here has been stuffy for the past few days, luckily it rained a little today. mango jelly, love that too!

The mango available here on the west coast is usually green and then turns red. Do I wait until it is soft before I use it? The yellow ones are also available but they are much smaller and more expensive.

I think if sub the milk with evaporated milk will be lagi sedap...hehehe.I love anything with evaporated milk.Here so sejuk and it's one of our colder winter...but I still like to try this pudding.Easy ingredients..I like.

Wendy, you have to use soft ripe mango. I think the small yellow ones taste so much better. That was the one I used.

Hi! If I am using mango puree directly (canned), how much mango puree do I need to use and how much water and milk amount to use respectively? Can advise? :D

Hanushi, the mango puree will be
1 1/4 cups. The rest of the ingredients will be the same.
