My friend Janice and I went to New York two weeks ago to watch Tyler Florence doing cooking demo but we arrived pretty late because of the traffics. We didn’t get to see the demo but we managed to take some pictures with him and got his autograph too. He is so sweet, handsome and friendly and yes he talk fast just like he was on TV. It was so hot that day and the poor guy uniform were soaking wet but he bear it all and signed autographs for his fan.
After that we proceed to Manhattan Chinatown for lunch and some groceries shopping. I saw some beautiful, thick salmon from a fishmonger and bought some home. Thank God we brought the cooler with us to store all the stuffs we bought.
I always prepared them in the simplest way possible to retain the salmon sweetness. I grilled them in the oven with some Ginger Sesame glazed. They always turn out great and Carlos said it taste better than the one serve at the restaurant. Don’t you just love my husband? He appreciates whatever I bake or cook for him :)
Ingredients:
From My Kitchen Snippets
2 pieces fresh Salmon
Some toasted sesame seeds
Salt and pepper to taste
Glaze:
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp ginger juice
2 tsp sesame oil
1. In a small saucepan, combined the orange juice, soy sauce, honey and ginger juice. Bring it up to a boil and turn down the heat. Simmer until the sauce is bubbling and thickens.
2. Add in the sesame oil, stir well and remove from heat. Set it aside to cool.
3. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degree F. Line a baking pan with some aluminum foil and brush it some oil on it.
4. Remove the skin of the salmon and pat it dry. Season it with some salt and pepper. Bake the salmon for 5-7 minutes (depend on the thickness of your salmon) Remove the salmon and brush it generously with the ginger glaze.
5. Switch the oven to broil and grill the salmon until brown (in between grilling take out the fish and brush it with more glaze) this will take 5-6 minutes depending how well done you like your salmon to be.
6. Sprinkle on some sesame seeds and serve immediately.
Note: The glaze is good for chicken and pork too.
That is so cool you got to see Tyler Florence, and it nice to know that he is just as friendly and handsome in person.

ReplyDeleteI don't even care about Tyler Florence, this salmon is TO DIE FOR! I consider myself an excellent cook & I seriously learned 3 new things from this post. #1 Line pan with foil to cook salmon. Why hadn't I ever done that before? #2 Bake some and THEN broil. It was done PERFECTLY. #3 the sesame glaze...YUM!!! Thanks SO much!
ReplyDeleteP.S. found you on foodgawker!
Gert, good recipe, I will try this out soon and let's see if my husband will give me a good credit. Carlos is really sweet.
ReplyDeletemel
I just tried this recipe to use as a glaze for my steamed carrots. I didn't have orange juice so I used the juice of a squeezed orange and all of the zest from the outer peel. And I didn't have sesame oil but I had Kraft Asian Sesame salad dressing as a sub. WOW! This is going in my collection!
ReplyDeleteDebra, glad that you like this. You can use the same glaze for chicken or any type of meat too.
ReplyDeleteMel, hope your hubby likes it.
Anon, glad that you like it. If you have a chance do get a small bottle of sesame oil. They do come handy when you cook Asian food :)
