Honey Chicken With 5 Spice Powder

This is a very simple dish to cook and goes really well with warm rice.

Ingredients :

1 pound of chicken meat- thinly slice
1 clove of garlic - chopped
4 shallots - sliced
2" of ginger - sliced thinly
3 small chillies - chopped
5 dried chillies - soak and cut about 1/2"

Marinate :

1 tsp of 5 spice powder
2 tbsp of honey
2 tsp of oyster sauce
1 tbsp of black soy sauce
2 tbsp of light soy sauce
1 tbsp of cooking wine (optional)

1) Cut chicken meat into bite size pieces and marinate the chicken for at least an hour.
2) Heat up wok with some oil stir fry garlic, shallots, ginger and chillies for a minute.
3) Add in marinated chicken and stir fry for a few second. Cover it and simmer and stir occasionally till the dish dries up and chicken it cook.
4) Dish out and serve with warm rice.

Note : You might need to add a bit of water if the dish gets too dry before the chicken is cook.

  1. wow!!..the flavour must be so powerful with 5 spices,oyster,honey,soy and wine..hmmmm never eat this dish b4...at first glance I thought you deep fried the chicken first,then stir fry looking at your photo..It's really good especially I see the red pepper now!! hahaha!!..now you make me wanna to cook this:))

  3. Never try this before, would it changes the taste a lot if I omitted the chillies? My little girls still can't eat too spicy food yet.

  4. Beachlover, I didn't fry the meat. Actually you can do that but I don't want to used to much oil so I just stir fried it.

    Pearly, this dish taste really good with rice :)

    LCOM, actually you can just omit the chillies. I add some lots of it for extra kick as I am the queen of chillis :) I am queen of chillies as you can see from most of my dishes :) :)

    Cat, I am sure Robert will like this dish. If he can't take too spicy just reduce the amount of chillies.
